THE FUTURE OF CLEAN HYDROGEN IS
TEXAS
VISION
CLEAN HYDROGEN IN TEXAS
Clean hydrogen provides a significant opportunity to increase American energy independence and create sustainable economic development in rural America. Currently, hydrogen is a critical commodity for industry as an essential gas utilized in refining and fertilizer production and is in demand for new applications in energy, industry, and transportation. But its current production methods produce considerable environmental impact and have high cost volatility. Improved technology and the dramatically falling cost of renewable energy have made it possible to use different and more reliable methods for producing low-cost and clean hydrogen with the only inputs being electricity and water.
The clean hydrogen sector is growing rapidly, and southern Texas is well positioned to serve as a hub for clean hydrogen production and distribution. The Mesquite Clean Fuels project would create a new, sustainable energy source that can supplement existing resources to increase our energy independence and decrease pollution at the same time.
ABUNDANCE
HYDROGEN
is the most abundant element on the planet but is naturally always combined with other elements. It must be extracted before being utilized directly. Hydrogen has three times the energy density of gasoline per unit of mass and is the fuel used for powering rockets to space.
LEADERSHIP
TEXAS
is a hub for energy independence
and clean hydrogen can expand the state's leadership in American energy production.
VERSATILITY
CLEAN FUELS
Hydrogen is the basis for a variety of clean fuels. It can be blended with natural gas or nitrogen to make ammonia or fertilizer. With CO2, hydrogen makes synthetic fuels that can be used for trucking, aviation, and maritime shipping.
GLOBAL
hydrogen production market is set to reach $1.1 trillion by 2030 at a 9.2% compound annual growth rate. (Hydrogen Council)
THIRTY
countries have developed Hydrogen Roadmap Strategies and the US Department of Energy released their draft in 2022.
